Top 5 most pet friendly National Parks

Top 5 most pet friendly National Parks

As promised, we wanted to provide you with a list of the top dog friendly National Parks for all of you who enjoy hiking with your pup! These parks are going to be a great choice for all of you who want to do a little more than relaxing at the campsite! The good news is that all of these parks have dog friendly campsites so after a day of hiking, you can kick back and relax with your pet in the evening.

Petrified Forest

Ding, ding, ding!! Your pet is allowed on ALL trails and roads inside of this beautiful park. This park is a gorgeous place to catch the sunset with your furry friend by your side. Our only caution is try to avoid letting your pet chew on any unknown objects as there are plenty of deposits of petrified wood throughout the park (hence the name).

White Sands National Park

And we have another winner! Fido (and friends!) is allowed basically anywhere this beautiful park has to offer (besides inside of buildings) There are miles of dunes and backcountry for you and your pet to romp through but we also have a caution for this, be aware of the sand temperature! Sand can get HOT so we want to make sure your pets paws are protected in the warmer months, also goggles may help Fido avoid getting sand in their eyes in case they get a burst of the zoomies!

Acadia National Park

This park is a great choice! Fido is allowed on nearly all 120 miles of hiking trails and 45 miles of carriage roads within the park AND allowed on the free shuttle service that runs through the park. After a day full of hiking, you and your pup can snuggle up at a campsite as they are allowed in all but one (Duck Harbor)!

Cuyahoga National Park

If you ever find yourself in the buckeye state for something other than buckeyes...this park is a winner! Your pup is allowed on over 100 miles worth of trails, and the only trails Fido can’t join you on is a mountain biking trail and the railroad which frankly sounds like a good idea to avoid those with your pup anyways! This park is especially pretty during fall so make sure to snag a photo of your pup in the gorgeous fall foliage!

Shenandoah National Park

With over 500 miles of trails, only 20 of them are off limits to your pet making this another amazing park for hiking with your best friend! This park is huge, often giving you the feeling that it is just you and your pup on the trails. Another perk? Cascading waterfalls! Oh, and also some of the Appalachian Trail runs through Shenandoah in case that is on anybody’s bucket list!

We hope this list helped you start planning you and your pets next big hiking adventure!
